... British English? Despite what the calculator insisted, I was not aware that there was that much a of a difference.

... But it is not a different language from American English, simply a different dialect. Scottish (Scots), Irish (Irish Gaelic), and Welsh, however, are. And I doubt anyone here speaks them fluently...

Yes ... different dialects count as variations on a language. - _ -
Nooooo, I meant Scottish/Irish/Welsh accents! They're cool. XD

Not when the only difference is a few words, slang, and spelling, they don't.

I am aware of that fact. But writing in a different accent and calling it a "langauge" is simply ignorant.

<sar>I even wrote this entire entry in British.</sar>

That's why I said, "It should." XD
I didn't call it a different language ... I called it a variation?
Clearly you've been vague in your word choice as well.
You said, "Simply a different dialect."
A different dialect is sometimes a totally different language.
Hehe. That's the whole purpose! You write entirely the same and claim it as in an accent! XP
It's supposed to be for fun, k? Don't go all macho and nitpicky. >.<

Mandarin is a dialect of Chinese. So is Cantonese. They both have a hell of a lot of sub-dialects, so they both count as separate languages XD

Bon-JOUR! Je suis tres bavarde aujourd'hui! XD

... the only variation is is a few differences in spelling. You cannot always easily decide whether something is British or American English based off of one or two sentences... it is therefor ridiculous to include British in your list.

It is occasionally. However, not always, and when it is SIMPLY a different dialect? As in, a different version of the same language and nothing else? There is no need to segregate so much.

::scoffs:: Macho. Excuse me for being annoyed at your mocking of my dialect.

Not just a few differences in spelling. The whole "phonology" (mentioned below) is different.
They can be clearly distinguished when spoken, but written it's nigh impossible which is exactly the point!

"Dialect: a variety of a language that is distinguished from other varieties of the same language by features of phonology, grammar, and vocabulary, and by its use by a group of speakers who are set off from others geographically or socially."

^ "variety" meaning a "variation" so these can be allowed in this.
A "different version" is exactly that, something different ...

"Variation: a different form of something; variant."
^ Accents make languages into varying forms used differently around the world.

Excuse me for pointing out the difference between word choice and accents.

Oh for God's...

British English and American English are not different enough to warrent being treated as different for this thread. End of discussion.

... Dictator. For God's what? >.< *warrant

Who are you to tell me that? I made this thread.
Twas supposed to be for fun before it was ruined.
And before you say, "but this is my forum so ha!"
The forum is supposed to be for open commentary.
Not commands. Accents = Variations, for me.

Don't be such a batrachian, okay? :/

Yes, actually, I do believe I am something of a dictator. Seems to be my job, actually.

... Helena? The one with the British accent who is an introject of a British woman...? And who does not appreciate her home country being mocked?

Mm, free speech is a myth, child. The government can cut you off at any moment they chose under any excuse they chose. I suggest you adjust to that fact accordingly.

I agree with Martini! Ryan's an ok kid, but dude, if letting you insult him will make you roleplay? Fair trade, cause I doubt Ryan gives a shit what you say anyway. Laughing
