The Invitation:
The Ivy Institute for Troubled Youth is like a dream come true for bewildered, frustrated, or selfish guardians of behaviorally challenged teenagers and foster children. A privately funded and operated school, The Ivy Institute is excruciatingly selective regarding its student base.
They only accept the worst of the lot, the social pariahs of high school. The ones who can't control themselves, the ones who cut themselves, the ones with shattered minds and personalities. The ones who are a danger to themselves, others, and society as a whole.
What could sound better than that to a parent at their wit's end with a child they can't, don't, or won't understand? Offering scholarships to those whose parents can't afford it, of course, and accepting foster children free of charge.
Located on a 55 acre plot in beautiful upstate New York, The Ivy Institute for Troubled Youth is a locationally secure school, guarded by wrought iron gates and 16' electric perimeter fences with razor wire. With advanced surveillance technology and efficient security personnel guarding the grounds at all times, the Institute comfortably reassures any lingering doubts a parent or guardian might have about their child's safety, while far surpassing any government standards for enforced security measures.
The Truth
But if you have learned anything from this life, it should be that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Nothing in this world is free, and just because something glimmers doesn't mean it's gold. More goes on behind the doors of this seemingly saint-like institution than correcting psychiatric, behavioral, and personality issues, or providing an education for students who can't find another school that will enroll them.
Funded largely under the radar by major pharmaceutical companies, the school is a front for illegal testing of newly developed medicines that haven't yet received a green light from the FDA. Students are selected from innumerable lists that generate the ideal test subjects for a vast array of these drugs.
Students aren't just chosen for their displayed behavior. Their parents, foster parents, or guardians are also looked into, screening out the children who would be worried about or missed too much by a genuinely concerned guardian. And thanks to the detailed application form, the child's complete medical history is there to let the staff know exactly what drugs can or can't be tested.
How do they keep this conspiracy a secret? Quite easily, actually. The students don't even know they're being used. Due to the unique nature of the student base, parents or guardians find it perfectly reasonable to sign off medical waivers to allow the on-staff psychiatric staff complete discretion in putting the child on a medication supplement plan. The psychiatric staff evaluates each student upon admission and begins the usually long process of 'finding the drug that works' for them. Drugs are passed out during meal times according to the psychiatric staff's notes in the student's chart.
And when one of these children acts out, as they are so likely to do, they become the unwitting guinea pig for new and exciting sedatives, fresh off the drawing board.
Not all of the patients recieve drugs, or course. Some are privy to even more inhumane treatment.
The Staff:
The staff working at The Ivy Institute for Troubled Youth is not there out of a wish to help people. Many of them are sick, twisted people. They are there out of desires that make them even more deranged than their patients. They enjoy seeing you in pain. They all have their chosen, methods of torture, but torture they do. The only thing that could be argued about when regarding them is whether it is better when they hate you or love you.
The Patients:
While many of the patients are far too gone to care, the patients with even the slightest bit of sanity left have only one wish. To escape. They may be delusional, but they understand where their friends are disapearing to. They may be suicidal, but they do not wish to die in this way. They may be freaks, but they don't enjoy the torture. They may be crazy, but they don't deserve this. And they want out.
